North Central honors Matthew Brill ’97 with Alumni Recognition Award

Oct 23, 2012

North Central College is honoring Matthew Brill of Pottstown, Penn., with its 2012 Alumni Recognition Award.

Brill and five others will be recognized during North Central’s Homecoming Convocation at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.

The Alumni Recognition Award is given to a recent graduate of North Central College who has excelled in his or her field in a leadership capacity.

Brill achieved outstanding success in the business world after graduating in 1997 from North Central with a degree in international business. He is currently an equity and derivatives broker for Tourmaline Partners, which is based in New York. Prior to this position, he spent 11 years with Susquehanna International Group (SIG), first in Chicago and then outside Philadelphia.

A Presidential Scholar at North Central, Brill excelled at both academics and athletics, graduating as a National Academic Athlete, as presented by GTE, and as an 11-time NCAA Division III All-American in both cross country and track and field. An individual National Champion in cross country, he took first place at the national meet in 1996 and was part of North Central’s 1993 NCAA III Cross Country national championship team that set a record for the lowest team point total (32 points), which has never been matched. He also was a member of the 1998 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field national championship team and still holds the freshman record at North Central in the 10,000 meters.

Brill was inducted into the North Central College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 and became a North Central College Trustee in 2012.

Others being honored during Homecoming Convocation are Outstanding Alumni Award recipients Maria Wynne of Chicago, Priscilla Gallagher of Chicago, Eric McLaren of Aurora, and Fred Janzen of Ames, Iowa; and Wall of Witness honoree Wayne Duehn of Arlington, Texas.
