PHO Speaker Series hosts 2010 alumna, dental school student

Oct 24, 2012

North Central College’s student-run Pre-Health Organization (PHO) welcomes alumna and current dental school student Anne Adamson ’10 as a guest speaker in November. Members of the campus community are invited to attend the free speaker event from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in Smith Hall. Lunch will be served; RSVP by Oct. 29 to doodle.com/bzcpehwp6ck24z4d.

Adamson’s visit is part of the PHO’s Speakers Series, which provides opportunities for its members to learn from and network with successful North Central alumni from a variety of health professions.

Adamson will share her experiences as a second-year dental student at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y.

At North Central, Adamson was a College Scholar and graduated with honors with a major in biochemistry and minor in psychology. She was the 2009-2010 recipient of the College’s Mironda K. Heston Scholarship, which provides funding to a student who embodies a spirit of humanitarianism and demonstrates initiative to work in a human rights and service capacity at home or abroad. Adamson used her scholarship to serve in Senegal, Africa, to help educate and provide medical and preventative care for malaria prevention.

As a dental school student, she is a recipient of the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), which provides tuition assistance and a stipend for up to four years. She also is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy.
