North Central College to hold panel discussion for first-generation college students

North Central College invites first-generation college students to attend a panel discussion on Jan. 17.

North Central students who are the first in their families to attend college are invited to the event at noon Thursday, Jan. 17, on the second floor of the Harold and Eva White Activities Center. A light lunch will be provided.

Panelists will discuss factors that influenced their success as first-generation college students, offer advice about mentorship and other benefits, and share personal stories about the challenges of being a first-generation college student.

The discussion will be moderated by Renard Jackson, director of outreach and program development in the College’s Office of Enrollment Management, Athletics and Student Affairs.

Panelists scheduled to participate are Danielle Bank, career counselor; Stephen Maynard Caliendo, professor of political science; Al Carius, professor of health and physical education, head men’s cross country coach and associate head men’s track and field coach; Marguerite Degenhardt, pre-professional health programs coordinator; Jeff Jankowski, associate professor of chemistry; and Michelle Roof, head women’s basketball coach.
