North Central College hosts championship events in track & field, men’s basketball

North Central College is host to two national championship events this weekend: the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 8-9 and the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship tournament March 9.

Track & field

Hundreds of athletes and coaches from some 167 schools nationwide and their fans will congregate in the Res/Rec Center for the indoor track and field championships to watch the top athletes in the country compete March 8-9. North Central’s fourth-ranked men’s team will have eight entries in its arsenal as it competes for a fourth straight team title. The women’s team will feature three competitors in the championships.

Tickets may be purchased online or the day of the event at the Res/Rec Center lobby. One-day passes are $12/adults, $8/students and two-day passes are $20/adults, $15/students. The first event begins at 10 a.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.

Men’s basketball

North Central College also plays host in round two of the men’s basketball championships at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Because the home court of Gregory Arena in Merner Field House will be utilized as the staging and practice area for the track & field championships this weekend, the game will take place at Benedictine University’s Rice Center in Lisle. The Cardinal men (25-3, ranked No. 3) will take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks (24-4, ranked No. 5), who are the defending national champions. 

Tickets are $6/adults and $3/senior citizens, students and children and are available for cash purchase in the College’s athletics office in Merner Field House, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Friday, or on Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. at Rice Center.
