Rabenold’s artwork displayed in studio at national conference

Christine Rabenold, North Central College assistant professor of art and student art gallery director, displayed four ceramic pieces in an exhibition titled “Redefined” at Spring Street Studios in Houston. Her artwork was part of the Concurrent Independent Exhibitions at the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference held March 20-23.

She and Kathryn Pszotka ’05, a North Central College lecturer in art, were among the four artists in “Redefined.” A North Central alumna, Pszotha majored in studio art and Spanish and minored in art history and earned an M.F.A. from Mills College.

Their exhibit “probes perceptions of transformed objects to reveal contemplation with ideas, meaning, materiality and process. It explores contexts of human environments, memory, the body and relationships.”

The Concurrent Independent Exhibitions are a major component of the annual NCECA conference and were sited throughout Houston in a range of venues. The exhibitions present a view of the diverse approaches within contemporary ceramic practice, ranging from utilitarian and designed objects to sculpture and performative events. Artists are selected by a review committee.

The NCECA conference attracts artists, educators, students, collectors, gallery owners, sculptors, potters, installation artists, hobbyists and professionals who are interested in all aspects of ceramics.

Rabenold joined North Central’s faculty in 2007. She received a B.F.A. from Temple University/Tyler School of Art and an M.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
