Whitney Goodbred earns Outstanding Major in Broadcast Communication Award

Whitney Goodbred, daughter of Carol and Randy Goodbred, of Earlville, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Broadcast Communication Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.
A senior, Whitney has a double major in broadcast communication and interactive media studies with a focus in convergent media at North Central College. She is a graduate of Earlville Junior-Senior High School.
Whitney has served for two years as station manager for WONC-FM 89.1, the College’s student-run, award-winning radio station that’s on air 24/7. She manages a staff of 65 students. Her name also has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List.
During her four years at North Central, Whitney has earned top awards for her broadcasting. In state contests, she was part of two teams that won first place and second place for Best Radio Newscast at the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s (IBA) 2012 student Silver Dome Awards. In the 2010 and 2011 IBA contests, she and her team of broadcasters earned first place both years for Best Radio Newscast. In a national competition in 2012, she and her team claimed first place for Best Newscast from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.
