Macek presents papers at international conferences

Steve Macek, North Central College associate professor of speech communication and coordinator of urban and suburban studies, presented papers at two conferences in England.
His paper on the policing of Chicago’s image and reputation in the screen media was presented at the Communication and the City Conference hosted by the Institute of Communications Studies, University of Leeds, June 14-15. The conference brings together researchers and practitioners from a variety of national contexts and institutional and professional fields to discuss questions of urban communication across academic disciplines and professional fields.
Also, Macek’s paper on Ernest Burgess’ involvement with the Chicago Motion Picture Commission (1918-1919) was presented at the International Communication Association pre-conference program on New Histories of Communication Study at London Metropolitan University June 16-17.
Macek has been a member of North Central’s faculty since 2002. He received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
