New York Times best-selling author discusses “After Visiting Friends”
Sep 18, 2013
North Central College will host a free lecture by Michael Hainey—author, writer and deputy editor of GQ magazine—at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in North Central’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St.
Hainey will discuss his newest book and New York Times Best Seller, “After Visiting Friends: A Son’s Story”—a heartrending portrait of a family and its legacy of secrets. Copies of his book will be available for purchase.
Hainey was age 6 when his father, a hard-drinking journalist, was found dead “after visiting friends.” His memoir tells the story of a son who goes in search of the truth and finds not only his father, but a rare window into a world of men and newspapers and a bygone era. The book also is a universal story about how we discover ourselves—who we are and why we are and the often unexpected yet satisfying discoveries we make along the journey.
This free event is hosted by the President’s Office and Cultural Events program.
