Oesterle Library hosts free film screening, discussion of “A Prince Among Slaves”

Two professors will lead a discussion following a free screening of the film “A Prince Among Slaves” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Dr. Lora L. Tyson Curriculum Center at Oesterle Library, 320 E. School St.
The discussion following the screening will be led by William Barnett, associate professor of history and Perry Hamalis, Cecelia Schneller Mueller Professor of Religion, associate professor of religious studies and director of academic opportunities.
“A Prince Among Slaves” tells the true story of Abdul Rahman Sori, an African prince who was enslaved in the American South in the late 1780s. Oesterle Library is one of 840 libraries and state humanities councils across the country selected to receive support through the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA). The Muslim Journeys Bookshelf aims to familiarize public audiences in the United States with the people, places, history, faith and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world.
