Harr to be honored with Wall of Witness recognition during Homecoming

North Central College will honor the late Rev. Dr. Wilber C. Harr ’30 during the 2013 Homecoming Convocation on Friday, Oct. 25, by adding his name to the College’s Wall of Witness. The Wall of Witness recognizes alumni of North Central and/or Evangelical Theological Seminary (ETS) for their lives of witness to their faith and service to humanity. Names of honorees are displayed in Kiekhofer Hall.

A man of compassion and faith, Harr was called to bring Christian teachings to people of African and Asians countries through mission work. After a term of missionary service and work in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Ethiopia, India, Thailand, Indonesia and more, he was appointed professor of Christian missions at ETS in 1940 and was dean of the seminary at his passing in 1971. Harr served as president of the National Association of Professors of Missions of North America and the Midwest Association of Professors of Missions. He received a bachelor of history from North Central College, a bachelor of divinity from ETS, a master of sacred theology from Union Theological Seminary and a doctorate from the University of Chicago.

Others being honored during Homecoming 2013 are Outstanding Alumni Award recipients Charles Bartsch ’73, John Giannini ’84, Ph.D., Steven Hoeft ’73, the Rev. Dr. Tracy Smith ’90 Malone and William Soper ’68, M.D. This year’s Alumni Recognition Award recipient is Josh Stumpenhorst ’03.
