Alumna gives talk about social service, guest musician shares Peruvian music

North Central welcomes alumna Nicole Coate ’01 and Alvaro Salazar to present their lecture and musical presentation, titled “Inspiring Change in Peru: An Evening of Music and Creative Thoughts on Social Service.”

The free presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in Koten Chapel.

Coate, who graduated from North Central in 2001 with majors in Spanish and English print journalism, will share her experiences of nonprofit work in Cusco, Peru, where she runs Healing House, a place for local Peruvians and travelers to heal and grow. She will talk about how she founded and operates her center and will address the issue of poverty in Peru. Salazar will close the lecture with traditional Peruvian music.

This event is part of North Central’s global human rights focus on poverty reduction and is sponsored by the Office of International Programs and Leadership, Ethics and Values program. For more information call 630-637-5132.
