North Central College showcases works by artist Deborah Orloff in the exhibit “Holzwege” Nov. 10 through Jan. 9.
The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9; complimentary refreshments will be served.
Orloff explores ideas of not having a chosen course in life and feeling unsure of where we are heading, through the layering of multiple photographs. She combines images digitally to create new spaces where each photograph disappears into the next. “Ultimately the images are meant to be ethereal and optimistic, conveying the sense of wonder that exists when we open ourselves up to new possibilities and realize that change is often fortuitous,” states Orloff.
The New York native is a professor of art who supervises photography within new media in the Department of Art at the University of Toledo. Orloff received her master of fine arts in art media studies from Syracuse University and her bachelor of fine arts from Clark University.
Her work has been a part of various exhibits at national and international venues including the Toyohashi City Museum of Art and History in Japan, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Royal Scottish Academy Galleries in Edinburgh, Scotland.
