Keys is interviewed by local media about timely issue
Dec 02, 2013
Jennifer Keys, North Central College associate professor of sociology and chair of political science, sociology and anthropology, was interviewed by a Daily Herald reporter for the paper’s Nov. 21 article, titled “Experts: Gay marriage law will bring change—slowly.”
She was among four experts interviewed for their perspective about the same-sex marriage law in Illinois. Keys addressed the law’s effect on socialization practices, saying children’s books about same-sex couples “tend to be more specialized. They’re books about ‘special’ families. Twenty years from now, we might see more representation.” Keys also noted that movement successes can spawn counter movements.
During fall term, Keys taught Protest and Change, SOA 375, a course that spotlights LGBTQ activism.
Keys has been a member of North Central’s faculty since 2003. She earned her B.A. from Ohio University and her Ph.D. from The State University of New York at Albany.
