Feb 17, 2014

The public is invited to hear two authors featured Feb. 25 at North Central College’s Emerging Authors Reading Series.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the College’s Koten Chapel at Kiekhofer Hall, 329 E. School St., Naperville. Featured authors are Eric Elshtain, a Chicago-based poet, publisher and educator; and Sandy Marchetti, a Naperville writer and 2007 alumna of North Central College.

Elshtain and Marchetti will read selections from their original works for an audience of students, alumni and community members. The series is presented by the College’s English Department and will include two more events at dates to be announced.

Elshtain has authored numerous poetry collections, including “Sonneteering” and “5 Poems & 5 Blues.” He is editor of Beard of Bees press and a poet-in-residence at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he conducts poetry and art workshops in the pediatrics ward, working with children from ages 3 to 23.

Marchetti teaches and tutors writing at Aurora University. She graduated from George Mason University in 2010 with an M.F.A. in creative writing (poetry). Her debut full-length collection of poems, “Confluence,” will be published in 2014 by Gold Wake Press. An illustrated press edition of her essays and poetry titled “A Detail in the Landscape” is also forthcoming from Eating Dog Press.

She recently took second prize in Prick of the Spindle’s 2014 Poetry Open Competition and previously was named winner of the Midwest Writing Center’s 2011 Mississippi Valley Poetry Chapbook Contest for her volume “The Canopy.” At North Central College she was awarded the 2007 Outstanding Major in Writing Award.
