Office of International Programs announces winners of annual study abroad photo contest
Mar 10, 2014
For the 85 students who studied abroad for 2013-2014, their experiences will live on in their photos, blogs and emails to family. Fortunately, many were willing to share their best photos during the annual photo contest organized by the Office of International Programs. The award winners in the two categories—People and Places—are included below. An album of all the submissions is available to view at the Office of International Programs, located in the Abe House, and the winning photos will also soon be displayed in the Boilerhouse Café on campus.
Winning photos represented Australia, Ireland, Italy and Peru, but dozens of submissions depicted other countries where North Central College offers 45-plus programs for study abroad. The deadline for study abroad applications for 2014-2015 has passed, but it’s never too soon to plan ahead for study abroad in the future—even new students who are entering college in the fall.
"It's not too early to consider studying abroad, because you want to find a college that can accomodate your academic goals, personal interests and budget. By working closely with your advisor and the Office of International Programs, you'll have more options, including the possibility of going abroad twice during your North Central College career and still graduating in four years," says Kimberly Larsson, director of study abroad.
It’s a dream worth pursuing, adds Kathleen Quinn ’15, a sociology/anthropology major who submitted two award-winning photos from her travels. “The five months I spent in Australia were possibly the best of my life. I made so many amazing friends from all over the world. Going to Australia has always been a dream of mine and I was lucky enough to spend five months living there as a student.”
