North Central faculty and staff are invited to attend the Illinois American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Spring Conference, hosted by the College on Saturday, April 26, in Smith Hall.

Twice each year, the Illinois AAUP sponsors an educational conference at a school with an active AAUP membership. North Central’s AAUP chapter is host for the 2014 spring conference, which will focus on the theme “The Role of Women in Higher Education.”

After the 8:30 a.m. board meeting, the first session will start at 9:45 a.m. in Smith Hall, followed by a legislative overview at 11 a.m. North Central faculty and staff are invited to attend the sessions, especially the keynote address at 1:15 p.m.

Titled “The Economic Status of Women in Higher Education,” the address will be presented by Dr. Julie Schmid, executive director of AAUP; Sara Kilpatrick, executive director of the Ohio Conference of AAUP; and Diana Vallera, president of the adjunct faculty union of Columbia College Chicago.

Advance registration is requested by April 24; contact lmaltby@staugustine.edu if you plan to attend. For more information contact Steve Macek, associate professor of speech communication, at shmacek@noctrl.edu.

The AAUP’s purpose is to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education’s contribution to the common good. More
