Peace Corps regional director will address opportunities for all disciplines

May 12, 2014

North Central’s Cost Accounting class has invited Brad Merryman, regional director of Peace Corps, to speak at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center. The campus community is invited to attend the free event; refreshments will be served.

Merryman will speak about service opportunities in Peace Corps and outline the possibilities for accounting and business disciplines. Merryman earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and marketing from Illinois State University in 1981 and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1993. He later travelled to Costa Rica, where he served in the Peace Corps for two years. Using personal experiences, he will discuss how service can come from all disciplines in a variety of ways.

Also speaking at the event will be Tom Wcisel, site coordinator from the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which offers free tax help to individuals in need. North Central accounting students routinely serve as VITA volunteers each tax season. Wcisel will discuss opportunities to contribute back to the community.
