Wolf edits new book celebrating Milwaukee Braves

Gregory H. Wolf, North Central College Dennis and Jean Bauman Professor in the Humanities and professor of German, edited the new book “Thar's Joy in Braveland! The 1957 Milwaukee Braves,” published in May by the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

The book consists of approximately 60 essays, including life stories of all of the roster players, manager and coaching staff, owner, general manager, sportswriters and radio announcers. Summaries of the regular season and World Series recreate the magic of that unforgettable season. In addition to the introduction, Wolf contributed nine essays on players Joe Adcock, Bob Buhl, Del Crandall, Ray Crone, Bobby Malkmus and Carl Sawatski; coaches Bob Keely and Charlie Root; and an in-depth narrative about the dramatic regular season.

Wolf is a member of the SABR, founded at the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971 and dedicated to baseball history, statistical analysis, and academic research on all aspects in baseball and culture.

Wolf has been a member of North Central’s faculty since 2005. He earned his B.A. from The University of the South and his M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
