Jillian Laumbacher earns two awards at 2014 Honors Convocation

Jillian Laumbacher, daughter of Edgar and Beverly Laumbacher of Crystal Lake, was recognized with two awards—Outstanding Major in Economics and Outstanding Major in Global Studies—during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville.
A senior, Jillian is double majoring in economics and global studies with a concentration in international relations at North Central College. She is a graduate of Crystal Lake South High School.
During her time at North Central, she was a member of the forensics team, competing in debate at the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Tournament and at Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Debate Tournament where she was ranked 19th speaker in the nation in the highest division of competition. Jillian also took part in the study abroad program to Spain and was named to North Central’s prestigious College Scholars Honors program. Her name has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List.
Jillian presented her thesis titled “What Moves the Millennials: The Effects of Different Forms of Media on International Political Knowledge and Interest” and an extension of her research at the College’s Rall Symposium. She was chosen as the student speaker at this year’s Commencement ceremony June 14. She will pursue a master’s degree in international affairs at Marquette University next year.
