Kelly Rasmussen earns Outstanding Major in English Award

Kelly Rasmussen, daughter of Lyle and Mimi Rasmussen of Rockton, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in English Award during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Kelly is a double major in English: writing and Spanish at North Central College. She is a graduate of Hononegah Community High School.

Kelly works for North Central’s Writing Center, which helps students edit and compose academic papers. She is also an editor of the North Central Review, a student-run literary journal that publishes the creative works of college and university students from around the country.

She has presented original scholarship at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research in 2013 and in 2014, served on the executive board of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta, and was awarded a North Central Richter Independent Study Fellowship to conduct research at Walt Disney World.

Kelly also completed the College Scholar Honors Program and presented her senior thesis, titled “American Lullaby: A Dystopian Novel Written From a Theoretical Perspective,” at the College’s Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research. Her name has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List.
