Kelsey VandenBerg earns Outstanding Major in Biochemistry Award

Kelsey VandenBerg, daughter of Susan Murphy and the late Ronald VandenBerg of Davenport, Iowa, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Biochemistry Award during Honors Convocation May 13 at North Central College.
Kelsey, a senior, is majoring in biochemistry at North Central. She will be pursuing a master of science in global health at the University of Notre Dame in the fall. She is a graduate of Davenport Central High School.
President of the College’s Pre-Health Organization and secretary of the biology honor society Beta Beta Beta, Kelsey also served as a mentor to first-year students and student representative on the International Programs Committee. She studied abroad in Ireland in 2012 and has presented original research at the American Society for Microbiology General Meeting, National Conference on Undergraduate Research and North Central’s Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research. Her name has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List.
In addition, Kelsey toured Europe in 2012 as a member of the College’s Women’s Chorale, performed with the Chamber Singers ensemble and in a lead role in one of the College’s Summer Light Opera productions, was a member of the Senior Class Gift committee and chosen North Central’s 2013 Homecoming Queen.
