North Central College alumnus Tom Musgrave finalist for CIO of the year award

North Central College alumnus Tom Musgrave has been named a finalist for a 2014 Georgia CIO of the Year Award.
Chief information officers and those in equivalent positions are selected based on their contributions in innovation, leadership, business value and community involvement. Winners will be announced Oct. 31 at the 16th Annual Georgia CIO of the Year Awards breakfast at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta.
Musgrave is executive vice president and chief information officer for Atlanta-based Americold, a global leader in temperature-control warehousing and logistics to the food industry. Since joining the company in 2011, Musgrave’s leadership in project management, process implementation and restructuring have resulted in significant cost savings and improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of the Americold IT organization. He helped Americold reduce IT costs by 30 percent, from $54 million to $35 million.
Americold services more than 3,000 customers with some of the largest companies in the world, handling 80 billion pounds of cold storage products with vastly different service requirements.
Prior to joining Americold, Musgrave served as vice president of information technology at syncreon, a specialized provider of integrated logistics services to global industries. In prior executive roles at MEEMIC Insurance Company, Musgrave designed and executed procedures that ensured full Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for audited systems and developed multi-year strategies for IT improvements.
He began his career in the financial services industry and held officer-level positions in the finance, insurance and healthcare industries. During his tenure at CNA Insurance, he managed the $6 billion company to utilize technologies and the Internet to change the way the company serviced its customers. This included the role of CNA eBusiness, a company organization solely focused on differentiating CNA Insurance by bringing legacy systems online.
Musgrave earned his bachelor’s degree in management from North Central College in 1997.
Established in 1998, the Georgia CIO of the Year Awards is the premier technology executive recognition program in the state. CIOs and those in equivalent positions are recognized in five categories: Global, Enterprise, Corporate, Emerging and Non-profit/Public Sector. Musgrave is a finalist in the Global category.
