North Central College education alumnus named principal of Aurora elementary school

Kevin Schnable, a 1996 elementary education graduate of North Central College, is the new principal of McCarty Elementary School in Aurora.

Schnable began his career as a fourth-grade teacher in Indian Prairie School District 204 at Graham Elementary School in Naperville. He then taught fourth and fifth grades in Oswego and later became a high school English teacher and director of student activities at Oswego High School. He served as dean of students there since 2004, the Daily Herald reported.

He also was head boys’ basketball coach at Oswego, the high school he attended as a teen. His teams won 236 games during his 15 years as head coach, the Aurora Beacon News reported. The 2009 team finished second in the state in Class 3A and won a sectional championship, followed by another sectional title run in 2010.
