North Central College partners with Flowers For Dreams to aid low-income children

Jul 31, 2014

More than 100 low-income children will start school this year with supplies paid for by supporters of North Central College.

The College teamed up with Flowers For Dreams for the third straight year to raise money to buy school supplies for local needy students. Part of the proceeds from the sale of flowers at North Central College’s Commencement ceremony in June benefited Flowers For Dreams.

Mary Reynolds, the College’s associate director of alumni relations, helped arrange for Flowers For Dreams to sell floral bouquets to family and friends at the College’s Commencement on June 14. For each flower arrangement valued at $27 or more, Flowers For Dreams donates a backpack—complete with a year’s worth of school supplies—to a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) student in need.

The 2014 Commencement ceremony netted Flowers for Dreams enough to donate backpacks and supplies to 114 CPS students living at or below poverty. Combined with the College’s 2012 and 2103 campaigns, the effort has benefited 349 needy children in three years.
