Sep 11, 2014
Members of the campus community are invited to attend Naperville’s annual remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks taking place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Commander Dan Shanower Memorial along the Riverwalk at the Naperville Municipal Center.
This year’s program includes the tolling of the Carillon bells at 5:30 p.m., followed by patriotic music at 5:45 p.m. Naperville Mayor A. George Pradel will give his recollections on that day 13 years ago. Also, featured speaker Brian Hastings, a retired New York Police Department detective, will share his experiences as part of the team that coordinated the search and rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero for 10 months following the attacks.
Commander Shanower is the second-youngest son of Don Shanower, North Central College professor of speech communication/theatre emeritus, who taught at North Central from 1955 to 1986.
This remembrance event is sponsored by the Naperville Exchange Club.
