Silvia Alvarez-Clare joins North Central’s biology faculty in fall 2014

North Central College welcomed Assistant Professor of Biology Silvia Alvarez-Clare, a newly appointed full-time, tenure-track faculty member for the 2014-2015 academic year, which started Sept. 15.

Previously, she was an adjunct researcher at Argonne National Laboratory and postdoctoral research fellow in biology with the National Science Foundation. Her areas of expertise are botany and ecology and she studies relationships among primary productivity, nutrients and climate in the tropical rain forest.

Alvarez-Clare earned a B.S. in biology from Universidad de Costa Rica, San José, an M.S. in botany with a minor in statistics and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary ecology from the University of Florida, where she also taught courses in biology and ecology.
