Fall term contemplative series begins September 24

North Central College’s department of religious studies invites students, faculty and staff to attend any or all of the series of events this fall focusing on the contemplative dimension of human experience.
Short presentations by practitioners from diverse traditions will be followed by contemplative exercises; participation in the exercises is optional. Professors Wioleta Polinska, Perry Hamalis and Brian Hoffert in the department of religious studies regularly attend these events along with students of various majors.
The following events will take place in Smith Hall, Old Main:
• Mindfulness Meditation: 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 8. Speaker: Stephanie Franz from Joy Meditation will share her views on the benefits of meditating.
• Jewish Meditation: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. Speaker: Yonah Klem, Ed.D., L.C.P.C., from the Congregation Beth Shalom of Naperville will share her views on Jewish practices.
• Zen Meditation: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22. Speaker: Brian Hoffert, North Central associate professor of religious studies and history, will share his views on Zen meditation.
