2014 Athletic Hall of Fame: Eggert Giere ’48, Ph.D., coach and professor

During Homecoming 2014, North Central College will induct Eggert Giere ’48, Ph.D., into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 18.
As head coach of the Cardinals’ swimming team, Giere was the first coach to guide a North Central College athletic team to a national championship. He also was an integral part of the campus community and faculty, serving as a professor in the political science department, dean of men and chair of the College’s division of social and behavioral sciences.
As a coach, he produced countless accolades and mentored student-athletes throughout their athletic careers. As academic chair, Giere instituted a number of changes and revisions in departmental offerings and course choices. Giere passed away on Jan. 9, 1969, at age 44. Click here to learn more about Giere.
