The North Central College Concert Choir and Women’s Chorale will present Francis Poulenc’s “Gloria” with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra Feb. 6-7.
The "Gallic Glory" concerts begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $35/adults, $31/senior citizens and $17/students; call the North Central College Box Office 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.
New York City-based soprano Sarah Wolfson is featured soloist on “Gloria,” backed by a combined 90 voices of the student ensembles and the full DuPage Symphony Orchestra. The 1965 Robert Shaw Chorale recording of “Gloria” won the Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. The concert will include performances of Ravel’s “Menuet Antique,” “LeTombeau de Couperin” and “La Valse.”
Lyric soprano Wolfson sings with an infectious energy and innate musicality that have earned her praise from The Washington Post for “working magic” and from The New York Times for singing with “luminous sound and impressively focused high notes.” She teaches vocal music performance at Columbia University in New York City and was First Prize Winner of the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition.
North Central College’s Concert Choir and Women’s Chorale are under the direction of Ramona Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts and professor and chair of music at North Central College. The DuPage Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Maestra Barbara Schubert.
