Celebrate Japanese culture at the April 20 Japanese Spring Festival

Apr 16, 2015

North Central College’s Japanese language program and Japan Club are hosting a Japanese Spring Festival from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to this free event, which celebrates Japanese culture at the start of a new school year in Japan. It’s also a time for appreciating the arrival of spring in Japan and enjoying nature’s beauty, particularly through cherry blossoms.

At the campus festival, visitors can experience hands-on activities such as folding paper, Japanese calligraphy, traditional children’s games, video games and tastings of Japanese teas. They can also partake in Kami-shibai, which is traditional story-telling with pictures presented in English, in addition to sampling Japanese foods at a minimal charge. Performances of koto (zither) music and Japanese archery (Kyudo) will also be part of the Festival.
