May 18, 2015

Marco V. Martinez, North Central College assistant professor of mathematics, applied for and was selected to participate in two conferences.

Martinez was invited to participate in the Latinos in the Mathematical Sciences Conference hosted by the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at the University of California, Los Angeles, held April 9-11. He received financial support for conference-related expenses. The conference featured talks by junior and senior Latino researchers, panel discussions and networking activities with the goal to inspire Latinos to pursue careers in the mathematical sciences and build a community that shares similar academic interests.

Martinez also participated in the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications workshop on Careers and Opportunities in Industry for Mathematical Scientists, held April 20-22 at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Attendees included faculty members, postdoctoral and graduate students who are interested in exploring careers and opportunities for collaborating with industry.
