Elaine Cannell ’15 earns Outstanding Major in English Studies Award

Elaine Cannell ’15, daughter of Robert and Laura Cannell of Kansas City, Mo., received the Outstanding Major in English Studies Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

A senior, Elaine majored in English literature and English writing at North Central College. She is a graduate of Kaneland High School in Maple Park, Ill.

Elaine was chosen to read her poetry at the Citywide Undergraduate Poetry Festival at Columbia College Chicago. She has presented other papers in literary criticism at North Central’s Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research and the international conference of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta, of which she’s a member. Her name has consistently appeared on the Dean’s List of scholars.

A tutor in the College’s Writing Center and EDGE study programs since her freshman year, Elaine also was a staff member of the College’s student literary magazine 30 N., which published some of her poems.  

Elaine will pursue a master’s degree at Purdue University.
