North Central partners with Flowers for Dreams to supply backpacks to needy students
Aug 06, 2015
With North Central College’s help, 118 backpacks and more than 600 individual school supplies will be given to low-income students in Chicago before the start of the school year.
North Central College teamed up with Flowers for Dreams for the fourth straight year to raise money to buy school supplies for Chicago Public School students in need. Part of the proceeds from the sale of flowers at the College’s June Commencement ceremony benefited the effort. For each flower arrangement valued at $27 or more, Flowers for Dreams donated a backpack—complete with a year’s worth of school supplies.
In the four years the College has partnered with Flowers for Dreams, a total 467 backpacks have been provided to needy students.
All supporters are invited to help pack the backpacks at the annual, area-wide Build-A-Backpack Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, held at the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. Hosted by Flowers for Dreams and its nonprofit partner Supplies for Dreams, the event expects to stock more than 3,000 backpacks for low-income students in need.
