Kristin Rose ’15, daughter of Greg and Cindy Rose, of Joliet, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in English and the Megan Sweeney Award for high academic achievement during Honors Day in May 2015 at North Central College.

She also was recognized for earning a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to teach English in the Slovak Republic. Kristin, who graduated from North Central College in June, majored in English literature. She is a graduate of Plainfield Central High School.

Kristin was a College Scholar. Her honors thesis on ragtime in author James Weldon Johnson’s “Harlem Renaissance” melded her diverse interests in literature, music, history and theory by meditating on issues of racial authenticity and the truth the body supposedly speaks in the making of American art.

She was a member of North Central College’s Sigma Tau Delta English honor society and tutored in the College’s Writing Center. She consistently earned honors on the College’s Dean’s List.

The Megan Sweeney Award was created in 2004 to honor the memory and academic accomplishment of Megan Sweeney, Class of 2001. The award recognizes a student who has produced outstanding work beyond the individual classroom, reaching the highest level of academic excellence.
