Fall term contemplative series begins Sept. 24
Sep 21, 2015
North Central College’s department of religious studies invites students, faculty and staff to attend any or all of the series of fall events that focus on the contemplative dimension of human experience. The events take place Sept. 24 and 30 and Oct. 14 and 21.
Short presentations by practitioners from diverse traditions will be followed by contemplative exercises; participation in the exercises is entirely optional. Faculty members Wioleta Polinksa, professor of religious studies and chair of philosophy and religious studies, and Brian Hoffert, associate professor of religious studies and history, regularly attend these events along with students of diverse majors.
Here’s the lineup of events:
• Catholic Contemplation: Thursday, Sept. 24, 12:15 p.m. in the Community Gathering Room at Kiekhofer Hall. Speaker: Diane Marie Pfahler with Sisters of Notre Dame and the Well Spirituality Center, a sponsored ministry of the Congregation of St. Joseph
• Mindfulness Meditation: Wednesdays, Sept. 30 and Oct. 14, 4 p.m. in Smith Hall at Old Main. Speaker: Stephanie Frantz from Joy Meditation will share her views on the benefits of meditating.
