Mariana Cury ’15 earns four academic honors at North Central College

Mariana Cury ’15, daughter of Everton and Rejane Cury of Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, received four awards during Honors Day at North Central College. Those awards included the Outstanding Major in Economics, Outstanding Major in International Business, Outstanding Student in the Economics and Business Division and the Senior Scholar-Athlete award for highest grade-point average.
Mariana, who graduated from North Central College in June, majored in international business and economics. She is a graduate of International High School.
While at North Central, Mariana conducted independent research on the impact of external aid on South American and Caribbean economic growth. She presented her findings at the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research and at the College’s Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research.
She served as a student representative on a North Central College search committee for a finance faculty position. She was a member of the student-run Entrepreneurship & International Business Organization where she coordinated activities relating to the import of olive oil, marketing and sales. She was involved with the student-run Circle K, a club that serves Naperville and surrounding areas through various programs.
Mariana earned the Scholar-Athlete Award during her junior and senior years. As a member of the Cardinal swimming and diving team she placed in the top eight in the 2014 and 2015 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) championships. She worked as a swim instructor for Cardinal Aquatics and as an academic tutor through the EDGE study-assistance program. After graduation, she began her career as a derivatives analyst at Northern Trust Bank. She consistently earned honors on the College’s Dean’s List.
