Contemplative series continues through winter term
Jan 25, 2016
North Central College’s department of religious studies invites students, faculty and staff to attend any or all of the series of events this winter focusing on the contemplative dimension of human experience. The events take place Jan. 28 and Feb. 16 and 23.
Short presentations by practitioners from diverse traditions will be followed by contemplative exercises; participation in the exercises is entirely optional. Professors Wioleta Polinksa, professor of religious studies and chair of philosophy and religious studies, and Brian Hoffert, associate professor of religious studies and history, regularly attend these events along with students of diverse majors.
Here’s the lineup of events:
• Jewish Meditation: 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, in the Community Gathering Room at Kiekhofer Hall. Speaker: Yonah Klem from Congregation Beth Shalom
• Mindfulness Meditation: 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Smith Hall at Old Main. Speaker: Stephanie Frantz from Joy Meditation on her views of the benefits of meditating
• Buddhist Meditation: 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Community Gathering Room at Kiekhofer Hall. Speaker: Kelsang Dorje from Vajrayana Kadampa Buddhist Center
