Contemplative Series continues through spring term

Mar 29, 2016

North Central College’s department of religious studies invites students, faculty and staff to attend any or all of the series of events this spring focusing on the contemplative dimension of human experience. The events take place April 7, 20 and May 4 and 11.

Short presentations by practitioners from diverse traditions will be followed by contemplative exercises; participation in the exercises is entirely optional. Wioleta Polinska, professor of religious studies, and Brian Hoffert, associate professor of religious studies and history, regularly attend these events along with students of diverse majors.

Here’s the lineup of events:
•    Hindu Meditation: 12:15 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the Community Gathering Room at Kiekhofer Hall. Speaker is Swami Varadananda, from Vedanta Society Chicago, Homer Glen.
•    Mindfulness Meditation: 4 p.m. Wednesdays, April 20, in the Dining Room at the Harold and Eva White Activities Center (WAC) and May 11 in Smith Hall at Old Main. Speaker is Stephanie Frantz from Joy Meditation.
•    Christian Labyrinth Meditation: 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in Fireside Lounge at WAC. Speaker is Rev. Eric Doolittle, College Chaplain
