North Central College faculty and alumnus coauthor published essay

May 12, 2016

Gregory H. Wolf, North Central College Dennis and Jean Bauman Professor in the Humanities and professor of German, and alumnus Kevin McMahon ’15, international business major, coauthored an essay. Titled “Judith. An Epic Film Adaption,” the essay was published in “communications,” a scholarly journal by the International Brecht Society.

The essay explores Farrokh Asadi’s film “Judith,” adapted from a scene in Bertolt Brechts’ influential play “Furcht und Elend des Dritten Reiches” (Fear and Misery of the Third Reich), which premiered in 1938 during the influential playwright’s exile from Germany. Wolf and McMahon discussed the cinematographic structure of Asadi’s 2013 film and explored the themes of power, suppression and responsibility.
