Stafford’s poetry is published in The New Yorker
May 16, 2016
The poem “Letter to the Editor” by Rebecca Hazelton Stafford, North Central College assistant professor of English, has been published in The New Yorker, issue dated May 16. Her poem is accessible online.
Published under Rebecca Hazelton, the poem is unlike Stafford’s other work because it uses little punctuation. The blurring of syntax permits multiple, simultaneous interpretations. About the poem, Stafford says, “I’m interested in exploring the language of outcry, the angry letters we write to 'authorities,' and how those words may reveal things about ourselves and others we’d rather not say.”
A weekly magazine, The New Yorker includes reports of current events, criticisms, reviews and essays with a political and cultural perspective. Founded in the 1920s, the magazine has nearly a million subscribers.
