Dec 08, 2016

Gerald Gems, North Central College professor of health and physical education, has published a new book, titled “The Routledge Reader in American Sport History.” Coedited with Linda Borish of Western Michigan University and David Wiggins of George Mason University, their book provides the first comprehensive overview of historical research in American sport from the early Colonial period to the present day.

Gems also gave a presentation, titled “Radicalism, Sport, and Social Control in Chicago,” at the Eighth Biennial Conference of the Urban History Association held in October at Loyola University in Chicago. The four-day conference attracted 722 urban historians, writers, scholars and journalists from six continents, including more than 40 states and a dozen countries.
