Velasco joined North Central College in 2012 to help the college’s growing international student body. To this position, Jesús brings his own experience of studying abroad in Barcelona- Spain, learning and speaking a second language (Spanish), leading a variety of short-term education abroad programs, advising hundreds of international students from around the world, and traveling to over 30 countries. He manages the office of International Student Services and Engagement (ISSE), a unit housed within the Center for Global Education (CGE). This unit currently serves 120 international students and their dependents from over 40 countries. In addition to advising international students on all matters related to immigration services, internships, and working and living in the United States, this office maintains the college’s institutional compliance with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State. Engagement opportunities for students include: International Living Learning Community (I-LLC), Friendship Family Program, International Roommate Program and the International Club.
