Matthew Smith, PT, DPT, MS is an Assistant Professor and Doctor of Physical Therapy in the developing Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at North Central College.  He completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine and has a Master of Science in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Daemen College.  He completed his Board Certification in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists with a focus on integration of methods and classification of patients to improve treatment outcomes.  In addition to his clinical work, he has experience as an instructor in multiple academic programs, where he instructs on evidence-based coursework with a focus on the musculoskeletal and orthopaedic topics of Physical Therapy. He has experience speaking at the national and international level. His research interests include determining the prognostic factors utilized by both clinicians and patients and how they relate to outcomes as well as recognizing barriers and boundaries that are present for new clinicians looking to branch into research or academia.

 

Matt is a big sports fan, lifelong Chicagoan, lover of most Chicago sports teams and closely follows his alma mater Purdue University. When not on campus, Matt enjoys completing local races, triathlons and “Dad’s league” basketball. He lives in a local suburb and spends a lot of time with his wife and two young children.
