Dr. Cheryl Widman holds a PhD in Special Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She taught in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) where started out her  teaching career as a middle grades math teacher, then transitioned into a Diverse Learners teacher charged with teaching math and English Language Arts in a resource setting. 

Dr. Widman's research interests include transition, parents of autistic postsecondary students, postsecondary student with disabilities, math learning disability, and UDL. She has presented papers at US and international autism conferences since 2003. The parent of an autistic adult, she is an Executive Board member of the World Autism Organisation as well as a member of several professional organizations including the International Association for Autism Research (INSAR), the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), Autism-Europe, and the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET).
