Paul Schwab

Class Year: 1953
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1983

Paul Schwab began his private practice in 1965, during which time he was also on the faculty at the University of Chicago. Currently, Dr. Schwab lectures third-year medical students on psychopharmacology at the University. In 1991 and 2003, he was named the department’s outstanding teacher. Schwab is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has served as a North Central College Trustee since 1980 and chaired the Board committees of academic and student affairs, admission, financial aid, and student development. Schwab served as president of North Central’s Alumni Association from 1979-80 and was a recipient of the Gael D. Swing Award for Meritorious Service in 2001. In early 2004, North Central’s psychology research lab in Goldspohn Hall was officially named the Dr. Paul J. Schwab Psychology Research Center in his honor. Schwab was recently named Life Trustee of North Central College.

 


Warren Ebinger

Class Year: 1951
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1983

Warren Ebinger continues his life’s work of service to his church, serving as a district superintendent of the United Methodist Church. After retirement he conducted marriage enrichment retreats with his wife, Mary. Ebinger received the Evangelism Award from the Baltimore-Washington Conference, UMC, was nominated for bishop by the Baltimore, Washington Conference in 1988 and co-authored the book “Do It Yourself Marriage Enrichment” with his wife, Mary. Ebinger also served a five year term on the College’s Alumni Board from 1961 to 1966. In 1967 he gave the North Central commencement address “A Man for All Seasons.”

 


Everett Schaeffer

Class Year: 1939
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1983

Everett Schaeffer was the medical director and chief of staff at Red Bird Mission Hospital in Beverly, Ky. After his retirement from Red Bird in 1984, he became a volunteer at Berea Hospital and a chaplain with the board of trustees of Body Recall, Inc. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Kentucky Medical Association, Madison County Medical Association, the Christian Medical and Dental Association and Family Practice Medical Society. Schaeffer has been recognized by the board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church for his mission work and medical practice and as chief of staff of Red Bird Mission Hospital. He was awarded the Heroes, Saints and Legends plaque in 1999 and honored with the naming of the medical clinic building of Red Bird Mission Hospital as the E.W. Schaeffer Medical Clinic.

Roberta Schaeffer

In 1980, she wrote the book titled The Story of Red Bird Mission. Gerald E. Bisbee, Jr.

Class Year: 1967
Alumni Recognition Award Winner 1983

Gerald E. Bisbee, Jr., served as president of the Hospital Research and Educational Trust, and the research and development affiliate of the American Hospital Association (AHA). Bisbee was editor of the quarterly journal, Health Services Research, and was a member of the faculty of the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. He has participated in numerous professional activities including serving as a staff advisor to the Subcommittee on Health, Committee on Human Resources of the U.S. Senate and as chairman of the Financial Management Task Force of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.
