North Central College Dean Interviewed on FOX 32 Chicago

Apr 13, 2020

Dr. Stephen Maynard Caliendo talked about politics amid the COVID-19 pandemic

North Central College’s Dr. Stephen Maynard Caliendo, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of political science, conducted a phone interview with FOX 32 Chicago, where he discussed politics amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He talked about last week’s breaking news story on presidential candidate Bernie Sanders dropping out of the political race, as well as how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the upcoming conventions.

“It wasn’t completely unexpected; I think as we moved through the primaries, it became clear that his [Bernie Sanders] path was getting narrower,” said Caliendo. “The speech he gave when dropping out of the race was totally appropriate. He has had a very difficult challenge. He had been criticizing Joe Biden for many months and now he must turn his support towards him. And he must get his supporter behind him, many of whom are quite enthusiastic about his candidacy and his ideological positioning over Joe Biden to help defeat Donald Trump in November.”
