North Central College dean interviewed on FOX 32 Chicago

Jan 16, 2021

Dr. Stephen Maynard Caliendo discussed the audio of President Trump saying ‘Find 11,780 votes’

In early January, President Trump saw some fallout surrounding a phone call he made to Georgia’s Secretary of State demanding they recount the votes and declare him the winner of the 2020 Presidential Election. The issue surrounding the allegations of voter fraud taking place throughout the state was of great concern earlier this month. The phone call between both President Trump and Georgia’s Secretary of State was recorded and leaked to media outlets stating the Commander-in-Chief demanded they “find 11,780 votes.”

Dr. Stephen Maynard Caliendo, dean of College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College, interviewed with FOX 32 Chicago on how closely reminiscent this is of the Nixon tapes during the Watergate scandal.

“I think the comparison to the Nixon tapes is right because they’re just that, tapes; we can hear them,” said Dr. Caliendo. “This is such a professor thing to say, but I would encourage people to listen, or read the full transcript, don’t just take the Spark Notes version of it. To hear it and not even just the President’s words, but the others on the call and how they are responding to him. I think that’s why we’re hearing echoes of what happened during Watergate.”
