Dr. Stephen Maynard Caliendo discussed the vote to impeach President Trump

After a bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives to impeach President Trump, the Senate will once again reside over his trial. Dr. Stephen Maynard Caliendo, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College, interviewed on FOX 32 Chicago, where he discussed the heated debate with republicans arguing there is no need to impeach a president who’s essentially packing and leaving the White House.

“The point wasn’t to remove him from office, but the pressure came last week that he should have resigned,” said Dr. Caliendo. “Then, if he wasn’t going to resign the vice president should move forward to assemble cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment. Neither one of those things happened. So, I think the point that the democrats have said that they’re trying to make so the president can’t just do anything he or she wants to do in the last days of their term. So, this was an important signal to be sent, but certainly the trial is going to be about much more than removing the president from office because he’ll be gone already by then.”
