As Director of Grants at North Central College, Shelly Galasso ’05 identifies and solicits grant funding from corporations, foundations, and government agencies to support a wide range of programs and initiatives on campus. She has worked with NCC faculty and staff to secure funding for scholarships, capital projects, and programming from the U.S. Department of Justice; U.S. Department of Education; National Security Agency; National Endowment for the Humanities; National Endowment for the Arts; various state, county, and city agencies; and many corporate and private foundations. Prior to returning to her alma mater in 2010, Shelly worked as a research communications assistant in the laboratory of oncologist Dr. Funmi Olopade at The University of Chicago, where she provided writing and project management assistance to Dr. Olopade’s researchers, graduate students, and global partners. Shelly received her undergraduate degree from North Central in biology and psychology and earned a master’s in Technical & Scientific Communication from Miami University (Ohio). Her graduate work included a one-year internship at the National Cancer Institute in Washington, D.C., where she assisted in the production of a report on links between lifestyle choices and cancer risk.
