Dr. Michael Montanye joined North Central College in 2023 and serves as an Assistant Professor of Management. He received his PhD in Management (OBHR) from Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. His dissertation focused on the fear of backlash that individual's experience surrounding leave taking policies.

Prior to getting his PhD he earned his BBA in Marketing, BS in Political Science, and MBA in Management and Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. During his time at UW-Whitewater, he played for the UWW Men's Soccer team for 4 years. He then went on to coach college soccer for two years before getting his PhD.

“The mind is not a vessel that needs filling, but wood that needs igniting” – Plutarch

Dr. Montanye's Teaching Philosophy revolves around being a spark-provider rather than a pail filler. To accomplish this he tries to provide his students with at least 4 things:

  1. Enthusiasm, engagement, and the opportunity to have fun while learning.
  2. Content that is relevant for their future careers and opportunities to see that content applied in real world situations.
  3. A mixture of learning through traditional (readings, lectures, quizzes, etc.) and non-traditional methods (including incorporating or creating board games tailored to course content)
  4. An environment where they feel safe to learn, ask questions, and know that he cares about them as people.
